As 2026 comes into sight, the pace of the clean energy transition is nothing short of inspiring. Solar and wind continue to break records, and sustainable construction is reshaping the way we live and work. The transition is not powered by policies or technology alone, it is driven by people. 

Renewable projects are scaling at record pace, data centres are expanding, and the built environment is being reshaped with sustainability at its core. Despite opposition from certain corners of the globe, renewables accounted for nearly three-quarters of global electricity growth in 2024, with solar and wind adding more clean power than ever before. For employers, this is the moment to think smarter about recruitment.

On April 28, 2025, the Iberian Peninsula experienced one of the most dramatic blackouts in recent European history. In just five seconds, 15 gigawatts of power, around 60% of Spain’s electricity supply, vanished… plunging tens of millions into darkness across Spain and Portugal. Transport halted, hospitals scrambled, internet and commerce collapsed. It was a stark reminder that our energy infrastructure, even in highly developed nations, is still alarmingly fragile.

I want us to blow away any lingering frustration and focus on the incredible innovation and dedication within our industry that’s tirelessly working to unclog the grid and ensure every single electron from our green energy sources finds its way to where it's needed. We're talking about tangible projects and smart strategies that will truly let the wind blow where it's meant to go!

The frustrating fact that a significant chunk of our hard won wind energy is actually going to waste. Yes, you heard that right, wasted wind power! It’s enough to make you blow a fuse, isn’t it? It’s like diligently tending a lush garden, watching your prize winning vegetables grow, only to realise you don’t have enough baskets to bring them all home.
